………………………………….Ellora’s Cave politely declined “Bound: A Post-Apocalyptic Lust Story” (featuring the warrioress Ana in her jungle home and the fertility researcher she encounters) on the grounds that they did not feel it was a good fit for their women’s interracial line of erotica.
Therefore, I submitted it to my publisher NCP (New Concepts Publishing, http://www.newconceptspublishing.com) to see if they would be interested in putting it to print.

I have a very interesting commercial fiction agent reading the first book of my Reaper Series of novels….I DO SO HOPE SHE CHOOSES TO REPRESENT ME!!!!!!!!!!!! Cross your fingers, fans, cross your toes, cross whatever it takes to get the Reaper Series off the ground….There’s so much I want to do with that storyline, a little incentive would be just the thing to give me the peace of mind (that it is a good investment of time and energy at this point in my life/writing career).

……………………………….I have three shifts left of my student Senior Practicum as a BN student, and then — PROVIDED I PASS — I have my BN degree!!!!!!!!!!!!
YAY FOR ME!!!!!
It’s been a LONG time coming!!!!!!
Then, there’s the CRNE exam in October, to become a registered nurse, and then if I pass that, I am a genuine freaking RN.
WOWSERS.
How time does fly when you’re having fun and keeping preoccupied.

So……….
…………..There’s one little difference between a contracted work with Ellora’s Cave and that of other eBook publishers I have seen. At EC they appear to require a contract binding your project for the lifetime of the work. I assume that THAT is different from lifetime of the contract. Perhaps I misunderstand?
I would really like to send them my tale, BOUND: A POST-APOCALYPTIC LUST STORY (the title I decided on after much deliberation, for the tale of my jungle huntress Ana, and her first interracial adventure).
I am in the process of writing a shiny new synopsis for Ellora’s Cave to try and win their approval/capture and hold their attention…
…given that I have NO intention of having Ana’s interracial erotica/BDSM tale end after the first encounter with her hero, if EC is interested in publishing her, I will have to find a way to ensure that her background story as a fictional character is fair game in the next installment…
…Now is Ellora’s Cave going to be interested in my dear sweet Ana and her adventures in her jungle home? I am really looking forward to hearing their opinion on thist project…
Time will tell, I suppose.

So……
………I have decided that I am going to query Ellora’s Cave books about my post-apocalyptic novella about Ana, the Amazon-like warrioress, her remote jungle home and the enigmatic fertility researcher who happens upon her exsquisite nude form as she is taking an afternoon swim after a long – and successful – hunt.
Wow. That was a mouthful. Try saying that really fast – you are guaranteed to run out of breath. My fabulous high school English teacher Mr. Ortwein once informed me in as gentle a manner possible that I am at times guilty of run-away (or run-on?) sentences like the one above. He did this in the cutest way: he drew a little run-away train going off the tracks saying “choo-choo” to give emphasis to his point.
Suffice to say, I remember this lesson well and as a result am now apologizing for the run-away train sentence you read, as well as any you may read in the future on this blog – or in my novels.
Back to the whole point of THIS post.
I am going to query Ellora’s Cave Books about Ana’s story (the title of which I soon have to decide on). It is an interracial/multi-racial sexy romp that I hope they will find delightfully intriguing. It is my hope that Ellora’s will pick up this title so that I can build a relationship and reputation with them for future work.
I am doing this not because I am entirely or largely dissatisfied with my other two publishers, Extasy Books and New Concepts Publishing, but because Ellora’s Cave seems to have a fabulous reputation, a large following/readership and will potentially offer greater exposure for moi, the amateur authoress Amanda M. Holt (or my chosen pen name).
Now, I pose this question to any who might listen and offer an opinion: should I query Ellora’s Cave with the suggestion that I publish Ana’s story under my own name – Amanda M. Holt – or publish Ana’s story under a pen name (such as Alexandra Gayle, the nom de plume that I am just ITCHING to use, as it is a combination of the names of both of my Godparents).
What to do, what to do?
Please advise.

p.s. – for those of you who don’t know what a query letter is, it can be best described as A) A query letter is a formal letter sent to magazine editors, literary agents and sometimes publishing houses or companies (Wikipedia definition) and B) A brief written presentation to an agent or editor designed to pitch both the writer and the book idea (definition from brochure-design.com )…C) a query letter basically asks if a publishing house would be interested in seeing your work (or a sample of your work — my simplest definition)…Now here I go, aiming to find time in my Nursing Student schedule to pen an attention-grabbing query letter!

To submit or not to submit, that is the question…
…no, I’m not talking about BDSM kink culture people, I am talking about the short interracial futuristic fantasy erotica piece that I have written about a tribal huntress in a jungle setting in a post-apocalyptic Earth era.
The novella follows the thoughts and actions of Ana – warrior, hunter, sister, daughter, friend, lover – as she encounters a golden haired stranger, the likes of which she has never seen before. Unknown to Ana, this stranger is a fertility scientist who sees her as a prime specimen for his work – a specimen he intends to collect.
My dilemma is this: should I submit it to New Concepts Publishing (www.newconceptspublishing.com) as a short story as it exists in its current length of 11,000 words, or should I continue writing this piece and not submit it until it is a more impressive 70,000 or 80,000 words? NCP has a Harmony line of eBooks specifically addressing interracial/multiracial romance and erotica.
I am trying to get the hang of writing shorter pieces (and writing them well) and would like to leave this novella as is to stand on its own merits with its current “What if-?” ending, making the reader wonder what will become of Ana as they learn of the predicament she is now in.
HOWEVER, the story would pack quite a punch if I were to develop it into a much longer work.
Perhaps a series is in order? A series of novellas that could be published as a collection down the line, if it was deemed of value to a/my/some publisher?
These are the sorts of decisions that have to be made along the way, as one decides how and when to end a story. Furthermore, how and when to continue it.
I am leaning toward shipping it off to NCP without any more deliberation…
…but if anyone out there in Internet-land has any opinion as to what an amateur authoress should do with what she considers to be a gem of a multiracial/interracial lust story, then comment away!
